How to Logout of Single Sign-On

IMPORTANT! When you finish using the computer you must ensure that you have logged out from each Single Sign-On service you have used in the session AND also logout from the Single Sign-On system itself.

You can do this in two ways:

EITHER: completely close down your web browser as shown in the table below. This is the quickest, simplest, and recommended method. If you do this, there is no need to perform any explicit logout.

OR: logout individually from each service using the appropriate logout method for that service, then click the Proceed with Single Sign-On Logout button. You may need to use this method if you when you are not able to close down your browser, or if you have configured your browser to retain your Single Sign-on session when the browser is closed.

Platform Web Browser     How to Completely Close Down
Windows Firefox / Opera / Chrome On the [File] menu select [Exit].
Macintosh Safari / Chrome / Firefox / Opera On the [Application's name] menu select [Quit] (e.g. [Safari > Quit]).
Unix Firefox / Opera / Chromium On the [File] menu select [Exit].

  • If you don't properly terminate your Single Sign-On session by either of the two methods described above, then anyone using the computer after you will have immediate access to ALL the facilities linked to your Single Sign-On username, not just the ones you have been using.
  • It is YOUR responsibility to protect your accounts by properly ending your Single Sign-On session.
  • If you ever start using a computer which has been accidentally left logged-in by someone else, you should immediately close down and restart the web-browser. Unauthorised access to someone else's account is an extremely serious violation of the University's IT rules.
