How to connect to eduroam WiFi
Wireless: Most people at the University of Oxford access the internet via the eduroam WiFi service
We recommend the eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistance Tool) for setting up your connection. Manual instructions are also provided in case this doesn’t work on your particular device.

After setting up your eduroam access in Oxford you will also be able to connect at other participating institutions. See eduroam.org for further details.
Follow these instructions to set up your eduroam connection for the first time. Your device should then connect automatically whenever it can see the eduroam service.
- Make sure that you have an internet connection such as 4G, Oxford Wireless LAN (OWL) or a home WiFi connection
- Download and run the eduroam CAT
- Enter your Oxford username in the format abcd1234@OX.AC.UK and use your remote access password
If you have trouble connecting, follow the troubleshooting guide.
If eduroam is available at your location:
- Select the wireless network icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select eduroam. Click Connect
- Provide your Oxford username in the format abcd1234@OX.AC.UK and remote access password
- At the Continue connecting? prompt, select Show certificate details
- If the server thumbprint is “AD 70 D8 CA C8 02 E9 EF 89 66 4C DE 59 EA F9 C3 52 79 71 04" then select Connect, otherwise do not connect and contact the Service Desk to check for any rogue networks
If you are setting up eduroam elsewhere:
- Select the Windows Start menu > Settings > Network & Internet
- Select Network and Sharing Center > Set up a new connection or network > Manually connect to a wireless network
- Provide the following details:
Network name eduroam
Security type WPA2-Enterprise Start this connection automatically Yes - Select Change connection settings
- Select the Security tab > Settings > Configure...
- Ensure Automatically use my Windows log-on name and password (and domain if any) is not ticked
- Confirm all settings then select Close

- Select the wireless network icon from the menu bar and select eduroam
- Select Mode: Automatic
- Provide your Oxford username in the format abcd1234@OX.AC.UK and remote access password
- Select Join
- You will be asked to trust the radius.oucs.ox.ac.uk certificate (Entrust), select "Accept" or "Trust"

Notice: All versions of Android
If you have used eduroam on your device before, you will need to remove any existing eduroam configuration before reconfiguring eduroam
- Install and open eduroam CAT by the Géant Association from the Google Play Store
- Select University of Oxford from the list shown, otherwise turn on Manual Search and search for oxford to display it
- Select the Install button
- Enter your Oxford username in the format abcd1234@OX.AC.UK and use your remote access password
- Select the Install button, you should see green text confirming 'Profile installed'
- Your phone should connect to eduroam when it is available. If eduroam is in the available networks list but does not connect automatically then select eduroam then Connect

Most Android devices can be set up to connect to eduroam in the following way.
- Select eduroam from the list of available wireless networks
- When prompted provide:
EAP method PEAP Phase 2 Authentication MSCHAPV2 CA Certificate Use system certificates Domain ox.ac.uk Identity Your Oxford username in the format abcd1234@OX.AC.UK Anonymous Identity Leave this blank (use anonymous@ox.ac.uk if you encounter issues) Password Your remote access password - Select Connect
- Your phone should connect to eduroam when it is available. If eduroam is in the available networks list but does not connect automatically then select eduroam then Connect

If you receive a notification labelled No Certificate Authority certificate chosen select Ignore

- Depending on device and operating system, select the appropriate option if prompted:
