Overview: OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business is a convenient place for storing files that you are either currently working on or may want to share with a small number of people before publishing more widely.

Benefits of OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business is an integrated part of the Nexus365 service fully supported by the University. Documents can be shared with anyone and, being cloud-based, the service allows you to store and access your work files from any device. Each user has been assigned up to 100GB of storage. This limit will be enforced from August 2026.

The service provided with your Nexus 365 account provides a secure storage location for your documents, held in UK data centres. It is certified against the internationally recognised information security standards and approved by the University for all data. However, you are responsible for using the service in a safe and secure way, so please also see our OneDrive for Business security guidelines.

When not to use OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business is useful for short term storage and sharing of data, but as it is only available whilst you are a member of the University you must consider alternatives if you require longer term storage.

If you are a researcher, you may not be able to use OneDrive for Business for some research grants, depending on funder requirements. You can find guidance for this on the Research Data Oxford website.
